TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME
Overview

TDR Capital and Elliott’s commissioned a change programme with the objective of making depots easier and more efficient to operate. Elliott’s specialise in modular buildings and the business has evolved rapidly through acquisitions. Their operational processes, management systems and organisational structures were no longer fit for purpose and the change programme was tasked with re-engineering the business and it’s 21 depots all within a rapid 9 month period.

Approach

•Setup a project team, engaged Regional Directors, HR & Finance members, and operational staff and agreed the priority areas of focus and timescales.

•Delivered operational trials to test new ways of working which was followed by deployment of new ways of working.

•Developed and deployed production planning tools and short interval control walks.

•Designed, developed and deployed the management control reporting system complete with daily, weekly, and monthly planning and performance review meetings.

•Designed a new organisational structure and new job roles. A HR consultation was completed and the new structure and roles were implemented along with a skills development programme.

•Identified lean processing ‘buffer’ areas that could be incorporated into the existing facilities and these improvements were delivered at a cost of £4.3M.

•Completed 18 process improvement studies to determine optimum ways of working.

Outcome

•Closed 9 depots and absorbed the workload into the remaining 12 depots to capitalise on the economies of scale.

•Enhanced infrastructure, installed new processes, and implemented a new organisational structure and job roles.

•Installed a basis for continuous improvement for Elliott management to operate and drive efficiency improvements daily.
